Mix2r Stats after 5 weeks

Mix2r is operating "beta" mode, meaning we are operating in a small semi-controlled environment. Once we get the wrinkles out of the system, we plan to expand and promote the site worldwide. Until then, the observing the patterns of interaction and getting feedback from users has been great for us to tune the site and fill in missing information. Our first big promotion is a contest for members with cash prizes to be won including $400 first prize, $225 and $125 for third (winning will be determined by votes of members on Mix2r.com). Given there are less than 25 members currently submitting songs, your odds are pretty high but you will need to get people to place their votes.

We currently have approximately 100 audio projects since our launch and many new users who have jumped on board prior to our big launch.  While we are in beta we will continue to operate in stealth mode meaning we have not yet started to promote the site to a wider audience.   While member traffic is starting to build, the visitors traffic (non –member) has also grown. Here is a rough snapshot:

Mix2r.com has had a few issues since we launched and our technical gurus Matt and Jason have been there to put out the fires.  Matt has even posted a few tunes.  Here is a quick snapshot of our community:

Newest Projects (Professional only – money offered for audio services)

1. Drum Tracks required for 1980’s style rock piece.  Project owner is offering pay $150 for good drum tracks (recorded with acoustic drums in Studio – wave files delivered) http://www.mix2r.com/node/188

2. Vocalist wanted for writing lyrics and recording vocal tracks on piece for compilation CD.  Project owner willing to pay money plus offer a percentage of  royalties for CD sales to the right candidate. http://www.mix2r.com/node/258

Featured Artist - Christian Paduraru

Producer Cristian Paduraru has made available a massive selection of his tracks for people to create a special mix. The idea here is to download his productions and create a memorable mix to share with electronic minds. All the tracks are available from the links below so dig in and start creating. Once you have produced a mix you are happy with post here for people to share. We will put the best of these mixes into rotation on RadiotecH. There are 42 distinct downloads, with some containing several tracks per download! This is a serious stash, people! 1.5Gb of content! Download from Mix2r.com.

FTP:

FTP is coming!  All members who are helping us beta test now will have access to free FTP service.  When we launch later this may end up being a service available only to paid members but if you are a member now, you have the free lifetime pro account.  It will likely always be free to download from the Mix2r FTP site.

FTP or File Transfer Protocol, is a protocol to allow transfer of larger files (like *.wav files) via the internet.  Most larger files cannot be transported by email due to size restrictions.  The FTP service will be available only to members who can be authenticated against the Mix2r members data base.

The FTP service will be announced to those who get this email newsletter.

Technical piece: Getting started using your computer as a home studio

While many people have come to Mix2r.com, not everyone has understood it’s true purpose and the capabilities it represents.  Mix2r.com was set up to facilitate the complete workflow for creating, recording and producing audio projects via the internet. In order to use Mix2r.com to do this, there are some basic capabilities you will require. 

1. A computer (PC or Mac) with software to record multi track audio projects
2. An instrument/MIDI port or audio card/interface to plug your instrument/microphone into; OR a digital workstation capable of making producing audio samples from scratch or via MIDI controllers
3. An account on Mix2r.com and a network connection.

To get set up with these capabilities, there is a cost however it is rather small (less than $200). This will buy you an entry level personal studio system for your computer that is by no means of entry level quality. I will break out each of these components and discuss them individually.

Contest announcement:

From January 1 – Feb 28 2007, we will be tracking votes on completed audio projects at Mix2r.com.   The person with the highest overall ranking at the end of the contest (Feb 28, 2007) will receive $400.00 USD and be featured on the front page of Mix2r.com for the month of March 2007. Second prize will be $225 and third prize will be $125 based on popularity by unique votes. Only registered members can vote (it's free to register) and the judges determination will be final. Contest rules will be posted later - prohibited where void. Prepare your entry now!
