I'm curious...what kind of gear/software does everyone use?

I'm just starting out, and I'm wondering what direction I should go in software/hardware wise. I'd like to get to the point where I can produce my own electronic music like so many of you guys. I currently have a couple of M-Audio midi controllers (O2 and 49 key), and a M-Audio trigger finger. I use Logic Express, but I think I will switch to reason.

Does anyone use analog turntables for electronic music? How does that work?

Any info is appreciated, and take it easy on me...I'm a total newbie at this.

i don't produce my own music at the minute unfortunatly :( but hope to in the near future!

I have a few mixes up on here though as i dj alot in my sparetime!

For that im using ;

2 x Pioneer cdj1000's
1 x Numark Dmx Mixer
and Sienheiser HD 25 Cups for mixing :)

I'm only shiny new on mixing and producing, I was actually the first user on Mix2r ;-)

Thanks for your input. The CDJ1000 / 100s seem to be the common thread I'm hearing so far.

I'd love to save the vinyls!!! but it's near enough impossible now... i've got a load of vinyls i said i would not part with!!! but now im having second thoughts!!! Lots of memorys but the digital take over is on!!!

Of course, I am not a DJ but do enjoy mixing stuff I recorded and putting tracks over others work.

I second the Ableton

I second the Ableton suggestion. And a lot of DJ's are now going digital with Serato Scratch Live. You can mix and scratch mp3's on your computer with time coded vinyl... pretty cool.

my set up...

hi guys how's it going? my set up is embarrassing. I just have an old hand me down computer and run reason 3 and soundforge on her. hehe. I use the stock sound card that came with the computer, and if you have listened to my track, you can hear it :p

but here is my new set up for the end of february/march...

cubase sx or nuendo
