Heya...

So here is the deal. I just got a pair of Denon DN-S1000s and a Numark mixer (1050). The mixer is certainly no where near being the best thing in the world -- but hey, its my first.

I'm figuring out how to work everything, after about 5 hours on the decks its starting to get obvious to me :-) I do have a basic, probably stupid question though...

What kind of speaker setup should I connect the mixer to at home? I have it wired into my iPod HIFI which is not the best for this. The mixer has RCA output. Also, how do I record what I am doing to my Mac? What kit do I need?

thanks...

I'm not familiar with the Mac, or the Numark mixer for that matter, but my guess is that the Mac probably has a 1/8" line-in, mic input jack. That being the case, you would need an adapter that has 2-RCA male jacks on one end and an 1/8" male phono stereo jack on the other. The RCA jacks would plug in to the right and left channels of master/booth output of the mixer and the other end plugged into the line-in jack on your Mac. You'll probably have to futz around with the audio input settings; select "line" vs "mic" input or you'll get some distortion. Hope that helps!

external sound card to controll with computer.

If yoou can find one that supports RCA, 1/4 / 1/8 inch and Firewire or USD it might be best if you want to integrate it with your system. I use the Toneport UX2 with some Rokit % powered studio monitors for a pretty wicked sound (Thanks Maynard S for the deal).

So my latest problem is the monitor situation. My mixer has only RCA outputs. Would I buy two monitors and use single RCA cables to connect to it, or get some hardware to go between the mixer and the monitors. I looked at some monitors on Saturday, and i noticed they had a single RCA input, XLR, etc...

Tried that out...

I tried this out on my own the other day and it worked well. I just downloaded audacity and was recording in seconds. v. cool!
