Hey there,
This is not a criticism of the site and merely constructive comment.
I like this site a lot (posted 7 tracks) and there are a few good musicians, producers and DJ´s here, but I can't help noticing that we are still a small group.
I got a request to join the site based on posting a music link at ableton.com, which I accepted and I'm glad that I did.
I am sure people are working very hard to promote the site and I could be wrong but I don't see much growth recently and definately streams and downloads of my earlier material were attracting more listens. Either my music sucks (very probably) so there is no interest or the population is stagnating here.
I'd just be interested to know if the site is in the ballpark for members and hits expected by the owners at this time and what is being done to spread the word. For curiosity's sake only.
Anyway, this site has so much potential and thanks to everyone involved for hosting, being members and the rest. At least we have quality here, if not quite the quantity so far !!

Thanks for your support.
The answer is "No, we're not actively promoting the site."
What is more interesting, however, is the "why". We realized in launching this thing that we had something...but what exactly? We got a lot of users signed up early in the year, but most did not stay because they either thought the site was kind of pointless, or there just wasn't anything holding them. On the other side, it costs a lot to host a high-bandwidth web site, and there is pressure for us to make mix2r into more of a business...without turning it into the shopping mall that is MySpace. We want to be more "flickr" than "myspace".
So now, we are working in the background to restructure Mix2r 2.0 so that it remains more relevant (for example, focus areas for electronic music and rock so that they don't get their individual cultures too entwined, internet radio streaming that culls the best of the mix2r crop and broadcasts it on a schedule, drawing people back to the site, high quality technical articles, and more). We're also giving the site a whole new look, making uploading easier, and exploring commerce models that may prove to help us and our users make $.
So...don't give up on us just yet. We will begin promoting ourselves and our users in due time.
...and your music does not suck. I have most of it on my iPod, and its kept me company on airplanes and treadmills all over the world!
What would be really interesting is to get ideas from people on the site on what they would like to see and how we can help make that happen. There are some interesting possibilities that we could do but they are hard to validate in a void (by ourselves).
We also have to eventually think of a business model for this site too. One idea that might be worthwhile is to offer value added services (secure FTP, being able to charge $$ for your work, bidding on studio work, etc.) We heard some peopel ask for this but in general need critical mass to make them worthwhile.
When the site is revamped Mix2r 2.0 as Matt calls it), we'll promote it to the max. In fact, I wanted to get a list of people who were also ready to help with the promotion of it and make a go of it.
I also want to say that your music is really good and I also listen to it. While membership might be crawling along at a snails pace, we also have growing numbers of users who are unregistered visiting the site. The webalizer shows over 4500 page views per day (120,000 per month). I'd like to see this grow to 100X that (12 million) but we need to revamp tht esite first.
If anyone has ideas or a wish list for where we might promote the community, please let us know.

Well, I agree that sustainable growth is good, better not to mass market and have the servers brought down because the of bandwidth/expense issues.
Thanks Duane, appreciate the comments, I wasn´t fishing for compliments and I have mentioned mix2r on a couple of other sites I visit.
If people think it´s pointless, then they didn´t get the point in the first place, the angle you were working from of having collabing musicians etc meet was a great idea. Although the current user base is more aligned to DJs, so you seem to have a nice niche there. And if people left the site so soon, they were probably not worthy members anyway !
And on the positive side, I like the site, it has fewer restrictions than many other music sites re:upload size and number of tracks. The people who are here are great and the vibe is definately encouraging. So keep up the good work and thanks again.

We want to have less restrictions than other sites while at the same time being able to afford it! Luckily, I've located a place to put our servers that will not have any bandwidth restrictions, so then we just need to worry about disk space :-)
I personally LOVE the site and think that it a very valuable tool ... as a former marketing director I can attest to the difficulties of promoting a good product. I am sure that we (members of mix2r) will see an increase in membership soon as well as “usefulness” of the site.

I would be down for putting some MIX2R banners on my site / myspace.
Cheers!
